Making alfa 159 with navigation

Hi,

since some days I have a Pioneer AVIC-F920BT installed in my 159 SW. The work was done by a professional car sound center.

When I bought the car there was the standard radio with Blue & Me Nav installed.

The size of the radio is nearly 2DIN (I do not know if it is called like this in your country). But you need a special frame because the original radio is a little bit bigger than 2DIN with round corners.

To use the steering wheel buttons the used a CAN-Bus adapter. There should be adapters by Pioneer, but they used a one from Zenec, that works as well.
The GPS antenna was delivered with the navigation system from Pioneer. The original one from the Blue & Me Nav is already installed, but not used by the Pioneer system.

The original radio antenna could be used, the only needed a small adapter I think (about 10 Euro).

The microphone from the hands-free device could not be used. The installed a new microphone near the drivers sun shield, the cable is perfectly hidden, so the addional microphone is not apparent.

The radio was about 1.000 Euro, the installation work was done in about 2,5 hours. The total price including several adapters and the addional frame for the cockpit was about 1.300 Euro.

If you do not have sufficient experience in such things, I suggest to contact a professional sound studio, because the whole center console (the normally silver painted or metallic blade from the air jets to the air condition console as well as the blade around the gear box) has to be removed because the old frame from Alfa could not be used. The new frame for the e.g. Pioneer system has to be mounted to the center console from the rear side.

But in general there should be no serious problems. An after market system is quite better than the original systems from Alfa, especially compared to the first Connect Nav+. The current Radio Nav (with maps on SD card) is quite better.
